History of this branch

This branch first opened at this address in 1955.

Between 1964 and 1965, extensive alterations transformed the property, and an Office was constructed on the first floor, which became the Registered Head Office of M. Whitfield Ltd. (which had originally been at M. Whitfield's first branch at Sunderland Road, Horden).

In the early 1970s, Mr.J.W.Grundy Optometrist opened an Optical Department on the First Floor.

M Whitfield Ltd's Head Office was transferred to St. Aidan's Terrace, Trimdon Station in 1979 and Mr. J.W.Grundy Optometrist expanded his Optical Department into the vacated premises.
